Bible Insert for talking with the "Missionaries at your door"

Updated: Aug 23, 2022

(WT=Watchtower; LDS= Latter Day Saints; GK=greek)

God is one & there is no other God:

  • There is only ONE God: Deut. 6:4; 32:39 there is only ONE Lord 1 Cor 8:6;Mk 12:29-34

  • We are to have no other gods before Him (Ex. 20:3).

  • “I am the first and the last; besides me there is no god. Who is like me?” Isaiah 44:6, 8

  • The Bible has “so-called” ‘gods’ and ‘lords’ but there isn't really another ‘god’ or 'Lord." 1 Cor. 8:5-6

  • "YHWH (LORD) is Elohim (God); there is no other besides him." Deuteronomy 4:35- LDS teaches that YHWH & Elohim are two separate beings.

God alone saves, preserves and raises from the dead

  • Call on the name of Jehovah & you will be saved Joel 2:32 is applied to Jesus in Romans 10:9-13.

  • “Our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ” in Titus 2:13 & 2 Peter 1:1, yet the WT mistranslates them to avoid it saying Jesus is God. However, they conveniently correctly translate 2 Pet. 2:11; 2:20 and Titus 3:4. See GK Granvel Sharp rule.

  • Is. 43:11- there is no Savior but Jehovah; Hos. 13:4 "There is no savior besides me."

  • “...a highway for our God” prophecy about the coming of Jesus- Isaiah 40:3

  • Jesus claimed titles & abilities that belong to Jehovah alone: “Good shepherd” “no one can snatch” John 10:23-33; see Deut. 32:39; Jehovah was pierced (Zech. 12:10) Yet Jesus was pierced (Rev 1:7).

  • Jesus will raise himself physically, John 2:19-22; Luke 24:39-40.

  • Acts 20:28-GK: “care for the Church of God, which he obtained through his own blood.”

Jesus has the same nature as God the Father and Biblical affirmations of the Trinity

  • Jesus is the I AM-John 8:28; 8:58; Exodus 3:14; “you being a man, make yourself God” John 10:25-33; "I and the Father are one" John 10:30

  • Jesus shares the same nature as Jehovah “the exact imprint of his nature” Hebrews 1:3; Rom. 9:5

  • Jesus is God and is one with God the Father in nature- John 1:1-3; the WT translation is inconsistent in John 1;6; Matthew 5:9 & Luke 20:38 w/o the definite article in the greek they don't translate it "a god" like they do in John 1:1

  • “If you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins” (GK its "I AM")Jn. 8:24 & Isaiah 43:10

  • Jews tried to stone Jesus (John 19:7) yet the only law in the OT they had ground for stoning Jesus was alleged blasphemy/claiming to be God- Leviticus 24:10-13

  • The Holy Spirit is not a force. He creates, teaches, convicts, is lied to- Gen. 1:1-2; 2 Cor. 3:17; John 14:26; Acts 5:3-4

  • Jesus is showing humility by giving up divine rights in Phil. 2:1-11, He is not emptying his deity. Also, this quotes Isaiah 45:22-23 in reference to knees bowing to Jehovah.

  • Col 2:9 affirms Jesus as the God-man.

  • The “name” of the Father, Son, and of the Holy Spirit is in the Singular in Matt. 28:18

  • Isaiah saw the glory of Jehovah in Isaiah 6:1-5. John 12:41 says that Isaiah saw the glory of Jesus.

  • 1 Tim 6:16 & John 1:18 make clear that no one has seen God (the Father obviously)

  • Trinity defined: within the ONE being that is God there exist three co-equal and co-eternal persons, namely, the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. One what and three whos. It is not a logical contradiction cause God is ONE in being and three in another way (person). It is Biblically affirmed, not a man-made doctrine. We should not expect God to be like man, He is God.

Jesus is Creator:

  • Jesus was not created: Isaiah 43:10; Prov.8:22-23-This section is talking about wisdom personified not Jesus created;

  • Jehovah alone created & is Jesus: Isaiah 44:24: John 1:3: Colossians 1:15 (the WT add “other” in Col. 1:15)

  • The LDS and WT teach that Jesus was created, which is contradictory. Thus, they tell people about another Jesus (Gal. 1 & 2 Cor. 11:4) and that false message will condemn them and their listeners unless they repent.

Jesus is worshiped and prayed to:

  • Hebrews 1:1-13 quotes OT verses that refer to God alone & apply them to Jesus: Ps. 2:7; 45:6: 102:25-27; 110:1

  • GK word “worship” is used in Heb. 1:6 & Angel rejects worship Rev. 22:8-9.

  • Thomas said to Jesus: “My Lord and My God” in John 20:28 yet Jesus didn't rebuke him.

  • "We have come to worship him" Matthew 2:2,11

  • "that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father." John 5:23

  • Jesus prayed to in Acts 1:24-25 7:59-60

  • Jesus encourages disciples to pray to him in John 14:14. 1 Chron. 16:8 tells us to call on Jehovah

There is only one Alpha and Omega (A & O)

  • OT Alpha and Omega Verses about Jehovah- Isaiah 41:4; 44:6; 48:12;

  • NT verses about Jesus as the A & O- Rev. 1:7-8; 17b-18; 21:6; 22:12-13

Son of God

  • Jesus claiming to be “Son of God” in NT is a claim to be equal with God- John 5:18; John 19:7

  • “sons of the prophets” or 'singers' can mean “of the order of the prophets” or “singers” 1 Kings 20:35; Neh. 12:28

Son of Man and Ancient of Days

  • These titles and roles of authority belong to God alone Daniel 7:9-14

God does not share his glory, or authority with another being

  • “I will not yield my glory to another” Is. 42:8 YET John 17:5 Jesus says “glorify me...w/ the glory I had w/ you.”

Firstborn:

  • David is called the Firstborn. It can mean “pre-imminent” Psalms 89:27; another Example Jer. 31:9;

  • Jesus is the preeminent one, the first one raised from the dead-Col 1:18-19; Rev. 1:5

Only- Begotten:

  • It can mean “unique one”- See Hebrews 11:17 talking about Isaac-He wasn’t the only son. John 1:18 can also mean “the unique God” (GK: ‘monogeneis’)

There was not a total apostasy & God’s word was not corrupted:

  • Jude 3; Isaiah 40:8; 1 Peter 1:25; Matthew 16:17,18; 2 Timothy 2:18-19; 2 Timothy 1:13

Matter is not eternal but God spoke it into existence:

(Note: the LDS church teaches that matter is eternal- see here for source and here for a brief response.

  • Genesis 1:1- The Hebrew word for "create" here is “bara” & is something that only God can do.

  • Psalm 33:6-God Spoke creation into existence.

  • John 1:3- The Greek verb ἐγένετο” (came into being) is used here to refer to everything created. It is not used of Jesus. Jesus was (GK: "ἦν"- imperfect 3rd person singular) eternally in existence in his divinity and never "came into being." He can't create himself before he existed.

  • Romans 4:17- God calls things into being that do not exist.

  • Hebrews 11:3- By faith, we understand that the universe was created by the word. of God so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

  • Colossians 1:16- by Him (Jesus) everything was created (Gk meaning for ἐκτίσθη: "to make or create something which has not existed before.)

If you died tonight, do you have assurance that you would go to be with Jesus?

  • Can I share with you the gospel according to Scripture? (Ephesians 2:1-10; 1 John)
